A Galaxy of Jades Awaits You at Jinsha

Exhibition Time: 2017-09-20

Hosted by: Jinsha Site Museum

The mild jade has always been likened to virtue by superior men. As Chinese civilization evolves, Chinese jade culture has been constantly injected with new connotations. During the more than eight-thousand-year history of jade culture, ancient jades first appeared as vessels to communicate with the spiritual world and then served as ceremonial artifacts to worship heaven. Jade changed from serving gods, then kings, and finally the common households. Chinese people have vested their unique bearing into the utilization, appreciation, and admiration of jades.

In the long history of jade culture, the Xia-Shang periods are undoubtedly a great milestone, as jade wares of that time, characterized by their wide distribution, fusion-style designs and exquisite workmanship, formed the second peak of Chinese jade culture. From the central plains to the northwest, from the lower reaches of the Yellow River to the Yangtze River basin, Xia-Shang jade wares are like the stars in the sky, shining brightly with the essence of that era.
