Africa, a byword for the mysteries-and-fantasies-filled wonderland, boasts a variety of landform, abounds in animal and plant resources, and breeds the long-standing ancient civilization and the unique regional culture. In the traditional black African civilization in sub-Saharan Africa, the carving culture stands out as the fruit of the wisdom and wild imagination of African people. It presents distinctive humanistic characteristics, glittering like a bright pearl in the river of world civilization, and inspiring constantly the development of western modern art.
190 sculptures from sub-Saharan Africa from the 17th to the 19th centuries are selected into this exhibition, including exquisitely crafted daily necessities, statues of gods with different postures, various kinds of sacrificial masks, and witchcraft objects for communicating with all spirits.
This exhibition will continue until May 3, 2015.
