Komate Kamalanavin, Consul General of Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chengdu, Visited the Jinsha Site Museum

    On the morning of Mar. 28, 2013, a sunny day, Mr. Komate Kamalanavin, Consul General of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chengdu, visited the Jinsha Site Museum with the delegation, accompanied by Zhu Zhangyi, Secretary of CPC Branch and Executive Deputy Curator.

    Mr. Komate Kamalanavin is the new Consul General of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chengdu in 2013. He has a keen interest in Chinese history and the Jinsha culture and has known a lot of information about Jinsha Site before this visit. The delegation visited the Hall of Relics and the Exhibition Hall successively. On the way from the main road to the Hall of Relics, the doll lanterns with “Jinsha style” left by Jinsha Sun Festival attracted the delegation. The lively and funny lanterns have combined Jinsha culture with currently popular culture, bringing them a fresh and new sense of sighting. Mr. Komate Kamalanavin said happily that he was looking forward to the next Jinsha Sun Festival in Chengdu and that he would be happy to attend it and enjoy the fun with Chengdu citizens and tourists from China and foreign countries if possible.

    During the visit to the Hall of Relics and the Exhibition Hall, Mr. Komate Kamalanavin carefully watched the Sun Bird, the gold mask, jade Cong of ten sections and other precious cultural relics, and he was surprised by the large number of ivory unearthed. He also excitedly had an in-depth discussion with Zhu Zhangyi about the stories behind those cultural relics and Jinsha’s culture context. Mr. Komate Kamalanavin said that the Jinsha Site Museum is the best equipped one he has ever visited in China.

    The tour ended with pleasure, and Mr. Komate Kamalanavin was thankful for the hospitalit. He also mentioned that Thailand and China are friendly neighbors and exchanges and cooperation between Thailand and Sichuan are in good shape with many Thai students currently coming to Chengdu and Chongqing for exchanges and learning. If possible, he would share with them how he feels after visiting the Museum, encouraging young students in Thailand to come to the Museum for the unique charm of Jinsha culture. At the same time, he also hoped to be able to bring the experience in terms of the venue construction and cultural relics’ protection technology by Jinsha Site Museum back to Thailand, promoting the good communications and interactions between the two sides in relics and museums.

    The Jinsha Site Museum thanked Mr. Komate Kamalanavin for his high evaluation. The Museum will grasp the opportunity of "Fortune Global Forum" to be held in June in our city to improve the hardware and software facilities, contributing to the cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.
