UNESCO UNIMA President and Secretary-General Inspected the Preparation for the 21st UNIMA Congress and the International Puppetry Festival in Chengdu

Recently, UNESCO UNIMA President Dadi D.Pudumjee, Secretary-General Jacques and the delegation came to Chengdu to study the preparatory work for the 21st UNIMA Congress and the International Puppetry Festival. Mayor of Chengdu, Ge Honglin met the delegation. Deputy Director General of the Municipal Cultural Bureau, Wang Bangjun, held a symposium. The delegation was accompanied during the whole process by Li Yannian, the Principal of the Exterior Communication Division of the Municipal Cultural Bureau and Chairman of UNIMA China, Tang Dayu, Executive Vice Chairman and the Secretary-General and the Principal of Chengdu Museum.
When he met the delegation, Mayor Ge Honglin expressed his gratitude to UNIMA for the support it had given when Chengdu successfully bade for the 21st UNIMA Congress and the International Puppetry Festival and agreed that the event would be loved by the local. The government would do its best to facilitate the congress and further promote the exchanges between Chengdu and the rest of the world. On behalf of the UNIMA, Dadi thanked Chengdu for the hospitality, believing that the congress would be a good opportunity to the UNIMA, the people of Chengdu and the people of the world. He believed that with the support of the Chengdu municipal government and the close cooperation between all parties, this congress would be a worldwide grand event. The two sides held friendly exchanges in terms of the time for the congress, venue construction and other matters. Vice Mayor Wang Zhonglin and the Deputy Secretary General of the municipal government Shi Jiang attended the meeting, and Zhu Shuxi, Director of the Municipal Culture Bureau and Lu Sheng, Deputy Director of the Municipal Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office were on the scene.
During the inspection, the delegation of the UNIMA visited Jiaozi Art Theater, Sichuan Opera Art Center, the small theatre of Wuhou Shrine Museum, and the Chengdu International Convention And Exhibition Center, and they also visited the Panda Base and the Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project, etc. and were satisfied with the facilities in the theatres and for the congress. The delegation also visited the China Shadow Museum of Chengdu, giving a high praise and evaluation to the collections of puppets and shadow in the museum.
During the visit, the delegation also discussed with UNIMA China, the Municipal Cultural Bureau and Chengdu Museum on the preparations, the establishment of the organizations and of the Arts Council institutions and the activities arrangement for the 21st UNIMA Congress and the International Puppetry Festival. Deputy Director General of the Municipal Cultural Bureau, Wang Bangjun and the Principal of Chengdu Museum introduced the preparation progress and pointed out that the suggestions on the preparations for the UNIMA Congress and the International Puppetry Festival from the municipal government, UNIMA China, the Municipal Cultural Bureau and Chengdu Museum were consistent. All the work related with UNIMA would be reported through UNIMA China. After obtaining the right of sponsorship, Chengdu jointly formulated a hosting program and set up a working team for the event after several discussions and deliberations. Chengdu has had the capacity and experience to hold large international conferences and events, and can guarantee the qualifications. The two sides also held a serious consultation on the relevant issues, and have made a number of consensuses.
After the end of the trip, UNIMA President and the delegation said that the preliminary preparations by Chengdu for the 21st UNIMA Congress and the International Puppetry Festival were very effective. They are expecting a special and characteristic congress and festival.
