Director of the Museum Department of the UNESCO Headquarters Inspected the Jinsha Site Museum

    On Oct. 23, 2008, Mr. Lawrence, Director of the Museum Department and Department of Antiquities of the UNESCO Headquarters, and Ms. Kabesi, Culture Project Officer of UNESCO Beijing Representative Office, inspected the Jinsha Site Museum, accompanied by Zhao Chuanrong, Deputy Director of the Sichuan Cultural Relics Administration, Zhu Xiaonan, Director of the Heritage Conservation Department, Li Bei, Director of the Museum Department, Wang Bangjun, a party member and Deputy Director of the Chengdu Municipal Cultural Bureau, and Liao Yongshu, Director of Department of Cultural Relics. The main purpose of the UNESCO's visit to Sichuan was to examine the post-earthquake protection work for the museum and cultural heritage.

    During the visit, Mr. Lawrence showed a keen interest in the Jinsha Site Museum. He appreciated carefully the precious treasures such as gold ware, jade ware and bronze ware, and meanwhile expressed heartfelt praise for the unique architectural style of the museum. The great efforts in the exhibits selection and display won his recognition. He believed that the rich exhibits showed the characteristics of the ancient Shu culture directly and systematically, and the use of high technology more facilitated the visitors to understand the relics and the stories behind them. And the instructor’s meticulous introduction not only set up a bridge for communications between the relics and visitors, but also made the museum more attractive. Mr. Lawrence believed that the Jinsha Site Museum was not only the pride of Chengdu, but also the pride of the world.

    After the visit, Mr. Lawrence expressed his satisfaction for the outstanding achievements in the protection of cultural heritage in the rapid development of China's economy. He hoped that through the UNESCO, the exchange and cooperation bridges between the Jinsha Site Museum and other site museums in the world could be built, so as to jointly promote the development of international museums.
