Chengdu: Foreign Cultural Exchange through Three Ways

    Holding “Chengdu temple fair” in British, performing the change of face of Sichuan opera in the US, performing the acrobatics of Pretty Girl in Qatar… During the spring festival of 2014, organized by Chengdu Bureau of Culture, three exchange groups went to the UK, the US and Qatar, carrying out performances, academic exchange and other types of cultural exchanges. They brought Chinese spring festival atmosphere and the unique cultural charm of Chengdu to the foreign countries.

    From Jan. 19 to Feb. 25, the performance group composed of people form Chengdu Culture and Arts School took part in the performance “Chinese Spring Festival” in Manchester, Sheffield and other British cities. And they cooperated with the ethnic Chinese associations to perform many Spring Festival celebrations in the local theaters, Chinese City God Temple, primary schools and gerocomium, which were spoken highly of. In the US and Qatar, traditional operas, acrobatics, ethnic dances, folk music and intangible cultural heritages and other program that had distinct feature of Chengdu culture and folk customs were presented nicely. 

    During the Spring Festival, Chengdu also introduced some excellent foreign programs to Chengdu. Among which, on the Jinsha Sun Festival 2014, Seoul lanterns became in the “Exotic Seoul”, letting the citizens see exotic Seoul without going abroad during the holidays.
