The Jinsha Site and the Sanxingdui Site Jointly Declared the World Cultural Heritages

On Apr. 21, 2014, the reporter learned from the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics that the ancient Shu civilization sites, including the Jinsha site and the Sanxingdui site, would participate in the nomination selection project to declare the world cultural heritage in China in 2016. The Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics has submitted related materials to the State Bureau of Cultural Relics in early April.
It is said that Guanghan Sanxingdui site and Chengdu Jinsha site are important heritage areas of the ancient Shu civilization. They are the national key cultural relic protection units, national archaeological sites parks of the first batch of, and important sites during the “12th Five-year Plan” period.
The sites of the Ancient Shu civilization have witnessed the historical changes and cultural development of the ancient Shu. Among the dozens of related sites found through archaeological excavations, Guanghan Sanxingdui site and Chengdu Jinsha site are the most outstanding ones. The ancient Shu cultural relics reveal the existence and development history of the ancient Shu from the perspective of archeology, and show the unique concept of urban planning, construction skills, spiritual beliefs, social life and the handicraft technology. The ancient Shu civilization fills the gap of evolution sequence of Chinese civilization. And the sites are the ancient civilization center in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and one of the important origins of Chinese civilization. They are of great significance for exploring the Chinese cultural diversity in the Bronze Age and the political organization and social formation evolution process in the early era of the humankind.
