On Dec. 10, the reporter learned from the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau that the Sichuan Museum and Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu were among the list of national first-class museums of the second batch announced recently by the State Bureau of Cultural Relics. At present, among the 100 national first-class museums, seven museums in Sichuan have gotten into the list.
According to the provisions of “the Interim Standard for Museum Assessment” by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, a museum is assessed and ranked in terms of integrated management and infrastructure of the museum, collections management and scientific researches, exhibitions and social services, etc. According to the scores, museums are divided from high to low into the first-class, the second-class and the third-class. Among them, the evaluation criterias for national first-class museums include a large number of collections, wide varieties or a great many precious cultural relics, high historical, cultural, scientific and artistic values, or one of them with worldwide significance. In addition, it also requires that the opening time of the state-owned museums each year is over 300 days and that of the non - state - owned museums is more than 240 days.
In 2008, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage carried out the assessment and grading for museums for the first time. Among the selected 83 national first-class museum, Guanghan Sanxingdui Museum, the Exhibition Room of Deng Xiaoping’s Former Residence, Zigong Dinosaur Museum, Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum and Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum in Sichuan Province have gotten in the list. At that time, due to the short opening time, the new section of the Sichuan Museum and the Jinsha Site Museum did not meet the qualification, missing the opportunity to be selected as the national first-class museum of the first batch.
In July this year, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage launched assessment work for national first-class museums of the second batch. After four months of selection, among the 104 museums participating in the declaration, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage has selected 17 national first-class museums, including Sichuan Museum and the Jinsha Site Museum.
