The 1st Temporary Exhibition “Treasures of Yin Xu” of Jinsha Site Museum Grandly Held

    As a support program to “Chengdu Jinsha Sun Festival 2012” by enriching the cultural connotation and visitors’ life, the exhibition “Treasures of Yin Xu” was jointly held by Institute of Archaeology, CASS, Chengdu Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute and Jinsha Site Museum on Jan. 18, 2012 in our Museum. On the opening ceremony, Wang Wei, the director general of Institute of Archaeology, CASS, Zhao Chuanrong, deputy director of Sichuan Cultural Relics Administration, Wang Bangjun, the deputy director general of Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Zhu Zhangyi, the secretary, and Yao Fei, the deputy curator of Jinsha Site Museum showed up. 

   “Treasures of Yin Xu” is the first temporary exhibition of the Museum since its foundation, on which, the 60-year archaeological achievements of Yin Xu in Anyang, Henan were displayed, including 136 pieces (sets) of national cultural relics, such as the bronze ware and jade ware unearthed at the tomb of Fu Hao, the 1st female general in Chinese history, the carriage of Shang Dynasty 3,000 years ago, the Yin Xu Oracle—known as the earliest Chinese character as well as some implements for the royal families and nobilities in Shang Dynasty. Those exhibits constitute the resplendent history of capitals in late Shang Dynasty. And the exhibition is also the first gathering of Yin & Shang civilization and ancient Shu civilization in Chengdu by crossing the history of 3,000 years. Displayed in front of visitors are not only the cultural relics of Shang Dynasty, but also the ritual systems in China. Yin Xu Oracle tells us the difference between Central Plain culture and ancient Shu culture, which generates visual impact. 

    Besides, a series of interactive games were designed following the exhibition theme to make it more interesting. During the exhibition, famous domestic archaeological experts were invited to give special lectures as a way facilitating visitors’ understanding of the Yin and Shang civilization 30 centuries ago. Sincerely the Museum hopes that the well designed cultural relics exhibition would shorten the distance of visitors and the mysterious Yin Xu culture, and enjoy the profound, extensive and resplendent Chinese civilization.  

    At this event, we also had the presence of a consul of Consulate-General of Germany and his wife, famous experts in Sichuan cultural expo and archaeological circle, related leaders in charge of Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute, Sichuan Museum, College of History and Archaeology, SCU, Research Institute of History of Sichuan Academy of Social Science, Wu Hou Shrine Museum, Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum, Yongling Museum, Sanxingdui Museum and Sichuan People’s Publishing House as well as some lucky members of Jinsha Site Museum.
