Life at the Tail of the Yangtze River—Exhibition on Liangzhu Civilization Grandly Held in Jinsha Site Museum

    Life at the Tail of the Yangtze River—Exhibition on Liangzhu Civilization, co-organized by Jinsha Site Museum, Liangzhu Museum and Yuhang Museum of Hangzhou City, was grandly held on Jan. 18, 2013 in our museum. The exhibition is expected to be closed on Apr. 18, 2013. On the opening ceremony, following leaders and guests showed up: Feng Yubao, the director general of Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, News and Publication of Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, Lu Wenbao, the curator of Yuhang Museum, Jiang Weidong, the curator of Liangzhu Museum and Research Institute, Zhao Chuanrong, Deputy Director of Sichuan Cultural Relics Administration, Zhu Yarong, the deputy curator of Sanxingdui Museum, Wang Yi, the curator and Zhu Zhangyi, the deputy curator of Jinsha Site Museum.  

    The opening ceremony, presided by the deputy curator Yao Fei, began at 10:30 on the morning of Jan. 18 in the B1F of Jinsha Site Museum with wonderful programs such as Chinese zither shows, mask dance and poetry readings. Sophisticated lights and shadow effect created an elegant environment to express the long correlation between Liangzhu and Jinsha, and unveiled the romantic theme of “In the river source I'm living, while you're at the end.”On the ceremony, Feng Yubao, the director general of Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, News and Publication of Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, and Zhao Chuanrong, Deputy Director of Sichuan Cultural Relics Administration, made a speech. At the end, leaders and guests put their hands jointly on a jade Cong mold-symbol of Liangzhu and Jinsha to light in up and begin the exhibition.

 

    The exhibition began with opening of the door to the Liangzhu civilization 5,000 years ago. Visitors had an experience of the charm of ancient Oriental civilization, the magnificent cities, the grand hall sites, the mysterious sacrificial altar, the developed agriculture and the jadeware of high workmanship, all showing the canonical position of Liangzhu civilization. Meanwhile, activities like “Searching for the Badge” and “Jinsha - the Deliverer of Missing” have made the exhibition more interesting and attracted more visitors. 

    During the afternoon, Jiang Weidong, the curator of Liangzhu Museum gave a lecture titled “What is A Jade Cong” to explain its records, discovery in Liangzhu culture and researches from three points: the lost memory, the frequency discovery, the understanding and explanation. All seats were occupied. In a simple way, the audiences had a better understanding on jade ware and culture of Liangzhu. 

    More interesting activities were also designed as the appetizers to the Chengdu Jinsha Sun Festival 2013, including some highlights and points on cultural connotation as well as surprises.
