Exhibition on Ancient China in Rome, Italy

Report from our correspondent At 6:30, Jun. 20, the “Ancient China-Chinese Civilization Series Exhibition I” was officially opened in National Museum of the Palace of Venice, Rome, Italy, a grand event sponsored by State Administration of Cultural Heritage and Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and organized by Art Exhibitions China and Rome Alliance of History, Arts, National Heritage and Museum of Italy. This exhibition was held as a part of the series exhibitions initiated to show the Chinese civilization in a more overwhelming manner under the framework of Memorandum of Understanding between State Administration of Cultural Heritage of the People’s Republic of China and Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities of the Republic of Italy on Further Cooperation in Cultural Heritage. 151 collections from Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Hubei Provincial Museum, Suizhou Museum, Guanghan Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan and Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum were showed. 

The exhibition was planned by Art Exhibitions China which was also responsible for the organization and supervision over the design and construction of Italian exhibition site. A famous Italian exhibition designer was engaged through international tendering. To incorporate the Chinese elements, all interpretative sign were made of Chinese art paper and the display cabinets were tailored in Chinese style of Wunderkammer. Voice guide in Chinese, Italian and English was provided, together with some videos introducing the excavation of related sites and background music played by chime. 

Before the opening ceremony, the new minister of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities of Italy, the Administration of Cultural Heritage of Italy, Polo, the director general of Museum Administration of Rome, and Ding Wei, the Chinese ambassador to Italy and Wang Jun, the director of Art Exhibitions China held a short interlocution. Ding said, cultural exchange between China and Italy has been shaped for a long time that in the past 20 years, we had cooperation in archaeology, museum, cultural relics restoration and protection, and talent cultivation. The “Qin & Han–Rome Civilization Exhibition” during the “Chinese Culture Year” from 2009 to 2010, a cooperation result of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China and the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities of Italy, and the “New Silk Road—Sino-Italian Collaboration and Achievements on Cultural Heritage Preservation” in 2010 have fully evidenced our exchange and cooperation in cultural heritage and witnessed our friendship. Bree was highly satisfied with the exhibition and full of confidence for future cooperation. 

After the interlocution, Minister Bree and Ambassador Ding Wei visited the exhibition with about 300 guest and media. Attracted by the exhibition, Minister Bree extended his visit from 5 minutes to 50 minutes. And also Ambassador Ding Lei decided to organize some activities to celebrate the National Day 2013 with cultural relics of thousands of years in the same exhibition hall.
