Jinsha Site Museum Will Hold the Exhibition “Ba—Ancient Kingdom Lost for Thousands of Years”

    Jun. 13 is the 10th Cultural Heritage Day in our country, the theme of which this year is “protect the fruits and share with all people.” For this reason, the launching ceremony of “National Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries Enter the Museum” was held in Jinsha Site Museum. Sponsored by State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Chinese Heritage Newspaper, Chinese Archaeology, the annual “National Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries” selection with a 25-year history has become a famous brand of cultural relics and museums archaeology, just as the “Oscar” of Chinese archaeology.

    Jinsha Site Museum also held a series of Cultural Heritage Day theme activities on the day, sharing the protection and research fruits of cultural heritage with people. The theme activities include the launching ceremony of “National Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries Enter the Museum” series of activities, National Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries series of lectures including “Bronze Bells and Tripods Chiming, Songs of Moralized Rites Lasting—Guojiamiao Zeng State Cemetery in Zaoyang of Hubei, “Backtrack of National Top 10 Archaeological Discoveries in Sichuan Over the Years” Photo Exhibition, “Ba—the Ancient Country Lost for Thousands of Years” Special Exhibition, etc.

Memories of the Time

    At the launching ceremony of “Top Ten New Discoveries Enter the Museum”, Yang Shengnan, an expert in ancient Chinese writing, donated more than 7,000 long-cherished books, and more preciously, and he also donated all of hundred manuscripts that he had accumulated for many years. Mr. Yang has been studying the Pre-Qin history of China, ancient writing, and oracle bone studies, which opens the window to observe people’s life in the Yellow River Basin 3,000 years ago. These collections of books and manuscripts donated to Jinsha Site Museum have condensed his years of research efforts, which is an important study material for young scholars to lead the way of academic research.

    On the afternoon of Jun.13, researcher Fang Qin(Director of Hubei Institute of Archaeology), the team leader of Guojiamiao Zeng State Cemetery in Zaoyang of Hubei and Chieftain Family Yangs’ Cemetery in Bozhou of Guizhou—“National Top 10 Archaeological Discoveries” in 2014 and Researcher Zhou Bisu(Director of Guizhou Institute of Archaeology) both came to Jinsha Site Museum and brought two theme lectures—“Bronze Bells and Tripods Chiming, Songs of Moralized Rites Lasting—Guojiamiao Zeng State Cemetery in Zaoyang of Hubei” and “Chieftain Family Yang’ s Cemetery in Bozhou of Guizhou”. At the lecture site, two archaeologists shared the joy and research results of the archaeological discovery with the audience and solved the doubts of the archaeological enthusiasts. Meanwhile, Wang Renxiang, Director of the China Archaeology and Director of Specialized Committee for Public Archaeology under the Chinese Society of Archaeology (CSA) also appeared in the site and made wonderful comments on the lectures of the two speakers. In addition, the photo exhibition at Remains Museum of Jinsha Site Museum from Jun. 13 to Oct. 7 brought a series of important archaeological discoveries in Sichuan into the public’s vision from the “ivory tower” of scholars and experts by looking back at the 5,000-year long history of Ba Shu Area together with the public. According to the sponsors, the “National Top 10 Archaeological Discoveries Entering the Museum” series of activities also include other special lectures related to archaeological discoveries held in Jinsha from July to September this year, such as “Powerful Country Dreamed for 3,000 Years” “Remnants of Precious Cultural Relics—Chengdu Laoguanshan Cemetery of Han Dynasty” “Forward in the Exploration – Cultural Relics Repairing and Archaeological Practice Sharing”. The cultural relics repairing stories about the non-documented Ba State in the Zhou Dynasty, “National Top 10 Archaeological Discoveries” Chengdu Laoguanshan Cemetery of Han Dynasty in 2013” and other major archaeological discoveries will bring a gluttonous feast for all archaeology enthusiasts as well as the archaeological practice results.

Appreciate the several‐thousand‐year ancient country

    In May 2007 of Dahekou in Yicheng County of Shanxi, grave robbers broke the villagers’ quiet life, but accidentally raised a major archaeological discovery sensationalizing in the industry—the mysterious Ba State showed its face. A staggering number of funeral products, burial customs of distinctive style, exquisite lacquerware, the earliest lacquer wood figures, the bronze inscriptions that fill the blank of history and the well-preserved original porcelain…The world was shocked by the series of unprecedented discoveries. Lasting from the Zhou Dynasty to the early Spring and Autumn Period and not leaving a single word in history books, Ba State finally came back to people after three thousand years. The special exhibition “Ba—the Ancient Country Lost for Thousands of Years” will be on display at Jinsha Site Museum from Jul. 7 to Oct. 7. The exhibition will also be combined with summer social work, for example, carrying out a series of archaeological confidential activities and interactive experiences including “Ba-playing Archaeology” to let children feel the history in happy time and “play” Ba State in experiences. 

    More than 100 young children were experiencing for the first time at the education and experience area of Jinsha Site Museum. The children first visited “Ancient Homeland” in the first exhibition hall and “Sketch of the Capital” in the second exhibition hall at Jinsha Site Museum and understood the lives of the ancient Shu ancestors under the guidance of the narrator. Then they learnt the method of making pottery of the ancient Shu ancestors and experienced the ancient life in Jinsha Tribe Area of Youth Education Centre.
