On May 18, 2017, the 14th National Top Ten Museum Exhibitions (2016), sponsored by China Newspaper Office of Cultural Relics and Chinese Museums Association, was finally revealed with the results. The awarding ceremony is to be held this year in Capital Museum—the main venue of “5.18 International Museum Day”.
The current promotional activity totally received declaration documents of 74 exhibition projects submitted by provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), while 71 participating exhibitions were finally qualified after a rigorous review, of which 69 domestic exhibitions and 2 foreign exhibitions. By the initial evaluation early held in Beijing, a total of 22 projects cut in this final selection. On May 16, representatives of the finalists made a wonderful multimedia presentation to the final selection jury on the basis of well-prepared planning. Jinsha Site Museum special exhibition “Eternal City — the glory of ancient Rome” won the winning prize award of the fourteenth (2016 year) National Top Ten Museum Exhibitions.
Assistant curator of Jinsha Site Museum, director of the research department and one of the Chinese exhibition planners of “Eternal city — the glory of ancient Rome” said:
The exhibition is an Italian high-end international communication and cooperation co-introduced by Chinese four provincial museums—Jinsha Site Museum, Tianjin Museum, Shandong Museum and Yunnan Provincial Museum. Because of the many cooperating agencies, high-grade cultural relics in this exhibition, it was very difficult to coordinate in the planning and organizing process. It was prepared from 2014 and officially launched on Jan. 26, 2016 with the preparation lasting for 2 years
We have adopted different art forms to combine tradition with fashion in the exhibition. For example, we made large Roman lanterns. Audience can enjoy the outdoor dynamic, three-dimensional display in addition to the indoor static exhibition. Besides, it formed the exchange pattern of north-south confrontation, east-west dialogue between eastern and western civilization.
At the same time, we also made a lot of dialogue extension of the show. For example, we have completed three photo exhibitions of different themes and made group exhibition of ancient Rome from the basic necessities to their architectural art to explore the communication and interaction of human civilization through the Silk Road and the Belt & Road.
We also did a lot of extension show during the entire exhibition, such as we created a new visual effect to the audience by adding Rome market, Roma Square, and the performance of Rome soldiers and Rome artists, which brought the audience more profound understanding of ancient Rome.
The selection, which was submitted online, used the WeChat account “Online Cultural Relics and Museums” to vote online publicly for finalist projects. The Jinsha special exhibition “Eternal city – the glory of ancient Rome” can be awarded in this selection due to everyone’s support. The audience's affirmation and love are the greatest motivation for us to make exhibitions.
We will try harder to make Jinsha Site Museum a window to communicate between Chengdu and the world, an exchange platform of Chinese and foreign civilizations and viewpoints, and the space for the public to enjoy cultural life.
