10-year Jinsha, Always with You

In 2001, Jinsha Site was discovered; in 2007, Jinsha Site Museum was built in situ and opened to the public; in 2010, it was identified as a national archaeological site park of the 1st batch. In those years, Chengdu has not only found the source of its history but also, thanks to its foresighted planning, forged a cultural space for its citizens to trace the origin of the city, a public area benefiting the community and an exchange platform to dialogue with the world.

Chronicle of 10-year Jinsha Site Museum

2007

As the door of Jinsha Site Museum opened, Chengdu finally had a place to search for its root. Precious treasures including Sun Bird Gold-leaf showed up in China Top 10 Exhibitions Approaching Jinsha for the first time, amazing the world. 

2008 

Panic Chengdu citizens in aftershock took shelter in Jinsha Site, the auspicious place for ancient Shu ancestors to hold sacrifice and pray for blessing. In that year, the national 4A scenic sport was opened for free to all the people who helped Chengdu so as to express its gratitude to them. 

2009

In order to bring the city brightness and hope, the 1st Jinsha Sun Festival was grandly held. After that, during each Spring Festival the locals see exhibitions, appreciate lanterns, watch performances, visit flower markets, taste food, play games, celebrating Chinese New Year with the most cultural charm.

In that year, the first China’s long animation “The Dream of Jinsha” competing for Oscar made its debut in Jinsha, embarking on its time-traveling journey.

2011

 “Jinsha Memory (2001-2011)—Photo Exhibition of the 10th Anniversary of Jinsha Site Discovery” was successfully held. The first sign language instructor in the museum introduced how 10-year changes of Jinsha has promoted the city’s development and brought happy memories of people’s lives to the hearing impaired. 

2012

The first special exhibition of Jinsha Site Museum Yin Ruins’ Treasures opened encounter and dialogue between ancient Shu civilization and other ancient civilizations at home and abroad. From then on, Jinsha has been elevated from “national first-class museum” and “national archeological site park” to a window for people to see the world.  

 

In that year, Jinsha along with Sanxingdui Site, was listed in the “World Cultural Heritages Tentative List” 

Jinsha participated in the Google Art Project, so that the Sun Bird which is prohibited to leave China can fly to every corner of the world.

2013

In the museum, the first deer cub was born in the Jinsha Deer Garden. The lovely and fresh life is a blooming flower of harmony between humankind and the nature 

2014

Voted by global visitors, Jinsha Site Museum became China Top 10 Popular Museum. Hereafter, it successively won prizes including “Best Site Museum” of Elites Award, the Oscar in global tourism circle, “Chengdu Top 10 City New Card”, Ctrip “Reputation Prize”. 21 volunteers of the 1st batch shared the happiness and honors with us. They become Top 10 Star of China Museum Volunteer later 

 If Jinsha Site Museum can fulfill her mission on time as ten years have passed? How is she connected with Chengdu? What changes she has brought to the people living in this city? 

Smart Museum 

In the same year, Jinsha was listed in the pilot units of Smart museum of the 1st batch as a pioneer in digital exhibition, digital guiding and other aspects. 

2015

Teenager Education Experience Area was officially opened and became the most unforgettable childhood memory in that summer vacation with colorful activities of social education. The Ancient Shu Civilization Exhibition had left such an indelible mark on its long tour to United States, Seoul, Korea and Linz, Germany, becoming a successful model of cultural diplomacy.

The image “Golden Monkey Hugging the Sun Bird” appeared on Time Square in New York, USA, sending an invitation for cerebrating Chinese New Year in museum to the world.

2016

 On the Sichuan global promotion meeting held by Press Conference Hall of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jinsha once again gave a card of “Great Sichuan” to the world. 

 What is the mission of a museum except protection and display of cultural relics? Jinsha Site Museum has spent 10 years on writing an answer to the question and keeps searching. 

   From the discovery of the Jinsha Site to the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Jinsha Site Museum, the “Sun Bird”, as the embodiment of Chengdu, has been soaring to great height with the dream of today’s people and the faith passed down from the ancient Shu ancestors. What will happen to the archeological site park and people in Chengdu? What can we expect for the development of both the Jinsha Site Museum and the city Chengdu in the future? Undoubtedly, the answer would be surprising and positive.
