Jinsha: Dedicated to the Promotion of Non-government Diplomacy

International diplomacy usually refers to relationships between countries handled by governments. Now non-government diplomacy serves an emerging and increasingly important part of a country’s overall diplomacy as a supplement.
Recently the 7th meeting of the Executive Council of Chengdu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries has been held and a new president, a new vice president, a new standing vice president, a new secretary general and a new standing executive director have been elected respectively. Mr. Wang Yi, the curator of Chengdu Museum and Jinsha Site Museum has been elected as the standing executive director, and Ms. Yao Fei, the vice curator of Jinsha Site Museum has been elected asthe member of the executive council.
Jinsha culture, the origin and representative of Chengdu culture has been used in the folk cultural diplomacy. In 2014 Jinsha Site Museum initiated an activity named “2014 Come to Jinsha, Greet New Year” together with Sichuan Province People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Chengdu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. About 100 foreign guests and their families attended this activity including Consul Generals of Germany, Singapore, Thailand, Australia and many other countries in Chengdu. Guests learned to make yuanxiao (sweet dumplings) and palace lanterns, spending the Chinese Lantern Festival in the Chinese traditional way, which gave them a glimpse of Chinese New Year’s atmosphere and Chengdu culture’s fascination.
In addition, Jinsha Site Museum has initiated many activities for the East-West cultural exchange.
At “the Night of Jinsha?Dancing Exchange and Performance of Chinese and Korean Youth Dancers”, audiences were fascinated by dancers’ superb skills and movements of a great aesthetic appeal. At “the Night of Jinsha?American Country Concert”, “the Night of Jinsha?Munich Philharmonic String Quartet Chamber Concert”, and the “Chopin’s Poetry and Music Piano Recital”, listeners learned about different music’s features, the country music’s close relation with the nature and life, the stringed music’s grace and classicism and the style of classical romanticism of Chopin’s music.The exchange of art and culture between China and other countries enhances friendships between them. Meanwhile the public have many opportunities to have public art experiences of high quality.
Jinsha Site Museum has dedicated to bringing in excellent foreign exhibitions. These foreign and domestic cultural exchanges display the diversity of cultures and humanities in different eras and areas. The “Dancing with Deities: African Sculpture Art Exhibition” presented a lively and mystery art picture of Africa. “Three Centuries of Elegance: Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres Special Exhibition (1740-2015)” showed this porcelain manufactory’s bravery, elegance and innovation from 1740 to 2015. In addition to foreign exhibitions brought in, since 2004 Jinsha Site Museum has held exhibitions of fine cultural relics from Jinsha Site in Singapore, Italy, America and other countries, joining in the East-West cultural exchange wave and spreading ancient Shu culture overseas.
The Jinsha Sun Festival has served as a window out through which visitors can experience foreign cultures. In 2014 the Sun Festival brought in the “Seoul Garden” and in 2015 set up the “Africa Exhibition Area”. In 2014 and 2015 Jinsha lantern groups have been displayed in South Korea’s Seoul Lantern Festival. Jinsha Site Museum has been devoted to the spread of ancient Shu culture and Chengdu culture overseas.
Mr. Wang Yi and Ms. Yao Fei’s election in this meeting is the result of Jinsha’s Non-government Diplomacy. With the development of Chengdu Jinsha culture would become a world-influential cultural product, and the Jinsha Site Museum would be the first choice for people to know about and understand Chengdu, which makes Chengdu become a better place.
