2019 The Night of Jinsha: a season of contemporary art performance

Jointly organized by the Sichuan Modern Dance Troupe and Jinsha Site Museum, this cultural feast will stage modern dance to present the interactions between contemporary art and the historical space.
Public Modern Dance Studio
Public Modern Dance Studio will offer basic dance technicalities courses and improvisation at Jinsha Site Museum, aimed at providing an opportunity for art aficionados to interact with one another and making dance popular to more people. As a unique expression of modern dance, environmental dance allows dancers to feel the environment, space, and architecture and explore the infinite possibilities of interpersonal relations and the relations between humans and the nature with their own bodies unfettered by the stage.
Modern & Contemporary Art Lecture
The lecture will be delivered by Ou Jianping, a nationally-recognized dance researcher, who is to share with the audience the outcomes of research in modern and contemporary art, the origin and development of dance as an art, and how to present ancient civilizations with diversified forms of modern art.
Exhibition and Performance of Root – A Large Dance Play
Where are our roots? Where will our civilization head for? These are the questions that countless people have been asking. On August 30th and 31st, Root, a large modern dance play, will be staged in the Jinsha Theater. The dancers will describe the mysterious civilization of the ancient Shu and explain the abstract conception of root with their plain body language. And the audience will be guided to find the cultural root of Chengdu as they immerse themselves in the history of the ancient Shu presented in the dance play.
Root was directed by Israeli choreographer Yoram Karmi, who created this modern dance play of Sichuan features and historical significance with the Sichuan Modern Dance Troupe by drawing inspirations from the culture of the ancient Shu following his field visit to the Sanxingdui Site and the Jinsha Site.
Artists invited to demonstrate environmental dance
As the event – “2019 The Night of Jinsha: A Season of Contemporary Art Performance” continued from midsummer to the early autumn before ending on September 22nd, two artists, Wen Xiaochao and Fumihiro Kikuchi, were invited to masterfully perform an original environmental dance respectively for Jinsha with inspirations drawn from the historical sites of the culture of the ancient Shu and the cultural relics excavated there, apart from the Public Modern Dance Studio, the Modern & Contemporary Art Lecture, and the Exhibition and Performance of Root.
