On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the opening of the German Consulate General in Chengdu, four musicians from Germany’s Munich Philharmonic gave a wonderful performance of "Jinsha Night - Munich Philharmonic String Quartet Chamber Concert" in Jinsha, the origin of Chengdu's urban civilization, on the evening of October 18th, 2014.
Founded in 1893, Munich Philharmonic is one of the oldest and most orthodox classical orchestras in Germany. Many heavyweight composers and conductors have emerged in this century-old orchestra. And people who have been in charge of the orchestra include the famous conductor Gustav Mahler, Felix Weingartner, Rudolf Kempe, Sergiu Celibidache, James Levine, and Christian Thielemann.
The four outstanding players who came to Jinsha this time include Krstic Sreten, the first violinist and chief violinist of the Munich Philharmonic, the second violinist Sichuanese Zhou Qi, the deputy chief cellist HAACK Stephan Gerhard Otto, and the violist SELLHEIM Konstantin Alexander.
Not only the performers from the world-famous symphony orchestra, the repertoire of the concert was also very classic and popular. One of these pieces was Slow Movement for string quartet from Anton von Webern, an Austrian composer and one of the representatives of the new Viennese Music School. Another was Emperor, one of the most classic works in the history of string-quartet. This piece is composed by Haydn, the founder of Vienna Classical Music School and the great master of symphony, and its second movement is also the tune of the current German national anthem.
All seats were occupied in the concert, and the audience gave overwhelming applause to the wonderful performance of the four outstanding performers. These musicians acknowledged the applause again and again. They returned to the stage twice for encore and performed two additional pieces of music. This international top-level concert also glutted the ears of the audience in Chengdu.
