The First Jinsha Sun Festival to be Held in Jinsha Site Museum
To enrich the cultural experience of Chengdu citizens during the Chinese New Year, the first “Jinsha Sun Festival” will be held in Jinsha Site Museum from January 21 to February 9, 2009. In this 20-day event, featuring its origin from the Jinsha culture, especially the worship of the sun, the museum will stage a “cultural feast” with distinct characteristics to show to domestic and foreign tourists that Chengdu and Jinsha stand as beautifully as before the earthquake.
Activities of the “Jinsha Sun Festival” mainly include sacrifice performances, the Sun God parades delivering blessings, and various shows with great casts. All costumes are carefully designed by well-known designers. In particular, some dressing elements took inspirations from real relics unearthed in Jinsha site, and then artistically remade to have an exaggeration effect.
Besides presenting a traditional form of the Chinese lantern show, the 74 groups of lanterns have incorporated rich Jinsha symbols such as worship of the sun, the natural environment of the Jinsha period, ancient production and living scenes, and the sacrificial ceremonies. Tourists will have a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture through these appealing light arts.
The event is backed by a temporary admission policy, charging 20 yuan per person.
We hope to tell more people the story of Jinsha as the name card of Chengdu through such events; On the other hand, we wish people can dust off their bad memories of the 2008 earthquake by taking part in cheerful activities.
