On the evening of January 9th, the "Inca: Andean Civilization of Peru” special exhibition opened at the Jinsha Site Museum. As the melodious sounds of Peruvian folk songs filled the air, visitors were transported to the ancient civilization of the Andes Mountains in Peru, soaring through the millennia with the majestic condor. Above the condor, an eternal sun shines brightly in the vast sky, connecting the ancient Shu people and the Incas.

Directed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Peru, the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration and Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcast, TV and Tourism (Chengdu Municipal Cultural Heritage Administration) and hosted by the Jinsha Site Museum, the exhibition features 168 pieces/sets from 14 museums in Peru, including the National Museum of Peruvian Archaeology, Anthropology and History, the Inca Museum and other museums, aims to comprehensively show the development of the Inca empire, the social life, the achievements of the arts and the cultural heritage and looks back at the rise and fall of civilization in the Andes region, where the Incas lived, over thousands of years.

8 Civilizations Laid the Foundation for the Glory of the Inca Empire

The Inca civilization, one of the three major civilizations in the Americas, originated in the Peruvian Andes and flourished during the 15th and 16th centuries, leaving behind a large number of world-famous historical and cultural relics. In order to clearly present the background and appearance of the flourishing Inca Empire, the exhibition is divided into four parts in chronological order, including prologue hall, Unit 1: "The Ancient Civilization of the Andes", Unit 2: "The Epic of the Inca Empire", and the concluding hall. The exhibition describes the daily life, artistic achievements, spiritual beliefs and cultural heritage of the Incas, and retraces the cultural changes that took place in the Andes from the Caral, which existed from about 5,000 years ago to the conquest of the Inca Empire by colonizers in 1572.

  168 Pieces/Sets of Valuable Collections

Based on the long and continuous timeline of the Andes, this exhibition selects representative artifacts of each civilization, allowing visitors to clearly perceive the characteristics and achievements. It is worth mentioning that, although the Inca civilization and the ancient Shu civilization were separated by thousands of miles, the ancestors of the two places shared the common spiritual belief of sun worship. 3000 years ago, the Jinsha site in ancient Shu had unearthed exquisite artifacts such as gold ornaments of the Golden Sun Birds and golden masks. In the Inca Empire, the king was regarded as the descendant of the Sun God, and they used gold to decorate their palaces and make artifacts. Therefore, the Andean region's sun worship, gold worship and other spiritual beliefs are also the theme of this exhibition, aiming to let the audience feel the "harmonious but different" between the ancient Shu and Inca.

Machu Picchu in All Its Glory

The exhibition utilizes scene restoration and presents three-dimensional sites of Machu Picchu, the pyramid site of Huaca Plana, etc. The audience can walk through these spectacular historical sites, and feel the charm of the cultural heritage of mankind.

A Peruvian culture theme creative area has also been specially built around this exhibition, gathering 133 cultural and creative products of various types, such as accessories, ornaments and daily necessities. In addition, Jinsha Site Museum will also expand the scope of the exhibition to the whole museum, successively launching themed light sets, floral exhibitions and Peruvian culture science and technology displays. At the same time, museum will invite Peruvian culture experts and scholars to deliver exhibition-themed lectures to the audience. Those who are unable to view the exhibition on site can also view the exhibition through 360-degree panoramic guided tours and webcasts. Come to Jinsha and experience the mystery and passion of Inca civilization!
