Collection as Treasure-Highlights from the Gilberts’ Collection of the V&A is displayed at Jinsha Site Museum. This morning (December 8th), the first special event was splendidly presented at the exhibition hall of Jinsha Site Museum, showcasing the social life and customs of Europe, bringing a refreshing exhibition experience to the audience.
This exhibition is jointly organized by Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum and the V&A Museum, with special support from Art Exhibitions China. It features 90 sets of precious items from the V&A Museum's Gilbert Collection and 16 sets of precious treasures from Sichuan Museum and Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum. It combines scene restoration, art installations, multimedia, and other forms to present the exquisite life and advanced craftsmanship, cross-regional civilization exchanges of European society from the 16th to the 19th century, as well as the common world of collections. The exhibition will run from December 1, 2022, to March 19, 2023.

Starting from 2021, cultural and museum institutions from China and the UK have worked together to carefully select and showcase the finest items from Gilbert's collection, taking the first step in the Asian tour of these artifacts and enabling the debut of the V&A Museum's exquisite decorative arts in China.

As witnesses of the trends, aesthetic tastes, and design styles of their time, the exhibits in this exhibition span nearly five hundred years of European history. The cultural connections in terms of materials and stylistic influences extend to Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. While providing the public with aesthetic enjoyment, they also reflect the imprint of the times.
