Release Time: 2025-06-13
The second Saturday of June each year marks Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, and this year’s theme is “Revitalizing Cultural Relics, Unleashing New Brilliance.” The Jinsha Site Museum launched four major themed activities, including “Classroom on the Site,” “Museum in the Air,” interactive events, and academic exchanges, contributing the “Jinsha strength” to the coservation of cultural heritage.
Classroom on the Archaeological Site: A Playful and Creative Bronze Culture Feast
On June 13, the Jinsha Site Museum kicked off its 2025 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day celebrations with the “I Teach at Jinsha” interdisciplinary learning program, held at the museum’s relics hall. Centered on Jinsha’s bronze artifacts and themed “Bronze-Cast Jinsha, Patterns Illuminating History,” the event brought together students from the Senior High School Attached to Chengdu Institute of Education Science and Jincheng Primary School of Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone. Guided by outstanding teachers, they explored the artifacts from historical, chemical, and artistic perspectives.
A small exhibition featuring 146 student-created artworks and digital works presented a delightful and imaginative feast of bronze culture for visitors.
The interdisciplinary course “Bronze-Cast Jinsha, Observing History Through Chemistry – A Journey of Historical Interpretation and Scientific Decoding” adopted a curatorial approach, guiding students to delve into the historical background and cultural significance of Jinsha’s bronzes while decoding the scientific secrets of their casting techniques from a chemical perspective.
The art course “Ancient Shu, New Castings – Clay Replicas of the Bronze Figure” seamlessly integrated culture, history, science, art, and moral education. Through a model of “artifact interpretation + hands-on replication + cultural performance,” it ignited students’ creative potential. Under their teachers’ guidance, the students built a miniature “Ancient Shu Bronze Workshop” to “recreate” the bronze-casting process.
The event culminated in a unique fashion show, where students donned self-designed bronze-inspired costumes and walked the runway at the preserved archaeological excavation site.
Mobile “Museum in the Air”: An Unforgettable Journey of Experiencing Ancient Shu Culture
On the morning of June 13th, the Jinsha Site Museum partnered with Chengdu Airlines to launch another highlight activity – “Soaring Over Ancient Shu, Secrets in the Clouds” Museum in the Air.
“Fellow explorers... please fasten your seatbelts and open the treasure box in front of you to find your Ancient Shu guidebook. Our journey of discovery begins now...” Aboard an aircraft adorned with the “Sun and Immortal Birds” emblem, interpreter Liang Yanmei shared the stories of the Jinsha Site’s discovery, the Sun and Immortal Birds gold ornament, and the gold mask. Passengers enjoyed interactive quizzes, VR experiences, guidebook explorations, and photo opportunities with artifact display boards, immersing themselves in the wonders of the Jinsha Kingdom and celebrating Cultural and Natural Heritage Day in a truly unique way.
Creative Workshops, Quizzes, and Fun Photo Ops: Endless Excitement on Cultural and Natural Heritage Day
On the morning of June 14th, the Jinsha Site Museum collaborated with Jincheng Primary School of Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone to present the “Jinsha Patterns, Threads of Heritage” event. The activity featured an Ancient Shu-inspired fashion display and a creative workshop. Visitors not only admired clothing designs based on artifacts like the gold mask, bronze birds, bronze animal masks, and bronze sacred trees but also got hands-on with crafting Jinsha-themed tote bags and posing for photos with cloud-collar accessories, fully immersing themselves in the charm of Ancient Shu bronze culture.
Simultaneously, the “Sanxingdui-Jinsha: How Much Do You Know About Ancient Shu Civilization?" quiz event also took place on June 14th. Designed to raise public awareness and appreciation for cultural heritage, the museum created interactive scenarios featuring blind boxes, artifact puzzles, and photo spots, encouraging visitors to unravel the mysteries of Ancient Shu civilization through exploration.
Beyond the vibrant public activities, experts and scholars in heritage conservation from organizations such as the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the Asian Academy for Heritage Management, the Chinese National Committee for the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS China), and the University of Hong Kong gathered at the Jinsha Site Museum for an academic exchange on “The Conservation and Sustainable Development of Archaeological Heritage in Urban Settings.”
