The Exhibition of “The Bronze Age Civilizations in Southwest China” Debuts in Spain
Release Time: 2026-03-19
On the evening of March 17, 2026 local time (in the early hours of March 18, Beijing Time), the Exhibition of “The Bronze Age Civilizations in Southwest China” was inaugurated with grand ceremony at the Guadalajara Museum in Spain. Jointly curated by the Jinsha Site Museum and the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center, this is the first international stop of a touring exhibition series dedicated to the bronze civilizations of Southwest China. The exhibition is co-hosted by China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, and organized by the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center, the Jinsha Site Museum, and several other partner institutions. It will run until May 15, 2026, offering Spanish audiences an intimate encounter with the infinite charm of the Chinese civilization’s “pluralistic and integrated” character.

At the opening ceremony, distinguished guests from both China and Spain spoke highly of the exhibition. 58 exquisite artifacts from 14 museums and institutions across Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi Province drew a captivated Spanish audience. Spanning multiple historical phases from approximately 1600 B.C. to 220 A.D., the exhibition not only showcases the splendid and diverse bronze civilizations of Southwest China and their magnificent exchanges and interactions with neighboring regions, but also vividly reconstructs the developmental trajectory of Chinese civilization — evolving from diversity into unity, and embracing diversity within unity.

Civilizations become richer through exchange and more vibrant through mutual learning. Since 2003, through cultural relics, digital displays, and other diverse formats, the ancient Shu Jinsha culture has traveled to over 30 cities across Italy, Mexico, France, Egypt, Peru, the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, and beyond, continuously bringing China’s outstanding traditional culture to the world stage. The landing of this Southwest China’s Bronze Civilizations exhibition in Spain represents not only another significant step in the global journey of ancient Shu civilization, but also a vivid international showcase of the pluralistic and integrated pattern of Chinese civilization.
