Seoul Lantern Festival

The Sixth Seoul Lantern Festival will witness lanterns lit in Seoul’s downtown Cheonggyecheon tonight, where nearly 80 lantern groups will be displayed brightly for the festival. It is said to be the highest-standard cultural event in Seoul’s annual routine festivals. Among them, with ancient Shu and modern Chengdu culture as the theme, such lantern groups as the Sun and Immortal Birds, gold masks, pandas and others, will make their debuts in South Korea. Fourteen festive lantern craftsmen from Sichuan have spent 25 days to offer greetings from Chengdu to visitors all over the world.

It is reported that during the 2014 Jinsha Sun Festival, Jinsha Site Museum cooperated with the Government of Seoul to jointly build the “Seoul Style Garden of South Korea” project from January 28 to February 16, 2014. The exquisite Korean traditional lantern groups and other cultural projects are widely popular among Chengdu citizens. In 2014, the successful holding of “Seoul Style Garden of South Korea” established a connection between the Jinsha Sun Festival and the Seoul Lantern Festival. Regarding the fruitful cooperation between Chengdu and Seoul in this project, Seoul issued a warm invitation to the organizing committee of the Jinsha Sun Festival. As a result, Jinsha Site Museum has participated in the Seoul Lantern Festival in Cheonggyecheon this year.
