Soul Capture

To honor the 2014 Chinese Cultural Heritage Day, Jinsha Site Museum held a free public concert in the Exhibition Hall on the evenings of June 7 and 8, featuring the string quartet and multimedia work Soul Capture. This event marked the first time for a museum in Chengdu to hold an elegant art show of international quality.

Relics found in Jinsha like the Sun and Immortal Birds Gold Ornament, the Gold Mask, and the stone chime would bring people back to the distant past, so it was the same with the famous Sichuan-born and America-based composer Hu Xiao-ou.  He was taken to a mysterious and awe-inspiring world after he visited the museum in 2007. His memorable journey motivated the prelude to this concert. After four years of extensive collection and dedicated creation, Hu finished translating the magic of Jinsha site in the unique language of music with sponsorship from the museum.

On April 13, 2011, the debut of Soul Capture staged in the Relics Hall. The world-famous Singaporean “T’ang Quartet”, composed of artists of the American Tanglewood Music Festival for five years and winners of the Bartók World Competition, played the heavenly sound that resounded for three thousand years.

From 2011 to 2013, Soul Capture went on a tour around the globe. From the Singapore International Festival to Edinburgh, to South Australia, and then to other well-known art carnivals, the mysterious culture of Jinsha embraced the world with modern music in its either wild or graceful melodies.

For now, the modern music piece returns to its birthplace, to have a conversation with the ancient spirit on this sacred land once more.
