Poetry and Music of Chopin

On the evening of November 3, 2015, pianist Olivier DE Spigre from Belgium came to Jinsha to visit Trois siècles d'élégance: Manufacture de Sèvres 1740-2015, where he improvised on the piano.

Winner of the Dexia Classical Music Award, Olivier DE Spigre has given piano recitals in Europe, Canada, the United States, Russia, and elsewhere in the world. He has been invited to many music festivals, including Flanders International, Belgium's Erwalon Festival and Beethoven Festival. He played a wide range of works, including those of Bach and Rutoslavsky, but mainly Beethoven’s.

Speigel deftly incorporated poetry, another hallmark of the French Romantic period, into his performance. When he played Chopin’s works, not only did he approach them with his own style, but he would give poetry reading to make his performance more appealing. He selected poems by the French romantic poets Georges Sand, Alphonse DE Lamartine, and Alfred DE Viny, so that the audience would both enjoy the classics of Chopin and have an unexpected romantic encounter with poets.
