2018 Jinsha Sun Festival

From February 13, 2018 to March 4, 2018, the 10th Chengdu Jinsha Sun Festival will be held in Jinsha Site Museum. This year, the Festival will move the world-famous cultural heritage Pompeii Ancient City into the Museum and present the brilliant city civilization in the classical period of Italy by immersive exhibition, traditional lanterns and gardening.

Searching for Pompeii

During the Sun Festival, the upcoming Pompeii: the Infinite Life—Special Exhibition of Unearthed Cultural Relics of Pompeii will exhibit 120 pieces/sets of elite cultural relics from the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Naples, Italy, such as frescos, marble statues, gypsum cast image, bronze ware, gold ware, glassware and ceramics and bring visitors back to the eve of the Vesuvian eruption from a brand new prospective by adopting many high-tech restoration and display methods including 3D modeling and stereo interaction to know about the real appearance of the Pompeii Ancient City, explore the civilization development status of the City and experience the daily life of Pompeii residents.

Light and Shadow

Igniting the Light of World Civilization

As one of the hot spots expected most by visitors, the 2018 Chengdu Jinsha Sun Festival, based on three parts including sun worship, ancient Shu civilization and traditional folk customs around the new subject “the Root of Tianfu Culture”, displays the important position of Chengdu in the world civilization and history with traditional lanterns. The Imperial Palace, Parthenon Temple, Glass Pyramid, Colosseum and other world-famous cultural heritage building gather here.

The lantern group of this Jinsha Sun Festival is the biggest over the past 10 years. Over 50 groups of lanterns, 5 groups of supersized lanterns of 15m in height, and over 5,000 strings of plant decorations were consumed to produce an atmosphere exceeding 10,000m2, turning Jinsha into a brilliant world of light and shadow. Meanwhile, the exhibition hall is integrally lighted for the first time to create a unique museum building at night.

Romantic Flower Sea

An Ancient Rome Town Built with Flowers

The beautiful flowers in the Jinsha Flower Market create a romantic town for visitors during this Sun Festival. Lovely succulent plants form a mini Italy. A Roman castle of 400m3 is built with flowers and iron. The splendid Vesuvius Volcano becomes a beautiful and dreamlike flower volcano, casting off the grief and shadow brought by the history. The round stage in the Flower Market inspired from the famous building in the Pompeii City—Amphitheater is decorated with smooth curves and flowers, meaning “cycle and eternity”, on which elegant violin, saxophone, aesthetic pair dance are shown here.

Praying for Happiness in New Spring

Spring Festival in the Museum

During Spring Festival and New Year, Chengdu people always enjoy themselves with foods and entertainment. At the “Pompeii Fair” formed by lanterns in the sinking square of the exhibition hall, Italian restaurants provide original pizzas, fizz and other traditional Italian foods. Visitors can enjoy food after visiting the Pompeii Exhibition, leaving good “memories of Pompeii”.

Meanwhile, the Sun Festival in this year will hold more than 300 wonderful shows, adding “new elements” to traditional performance. A large number of multimedia technologies including holographic video and light-shadow interaction are utilized in combination of traditional songs and dances to provide more fashionable and novel programs.
